100% ownership, fast setup, and tax advantages, if you choose the right zone
UAE free zones are designed to attract international business: full foreign ownership, streamlined formation, customs benefits, and, for qualifying companies, 0% corporate tax.
But with over 40 free zones in the UAE, each with different costs, activities, visa quotas, reputations, and different levels of acceptance at UAE banks, choosing the right one is the difference between a smart setup and an expensive mistake.
The cheapest free zone is not always the cheapest in the end. The wrong activity list, poor banking acceptance, or a zone that does not fit your clients can cost far more than the license saved.
Inspire MS Tax Consultancy provides expert free zone company formation across the UAE, including freezone company formation Dubai. We match your business to the right zone, manage the entire setup, and handle the tax side, including the Qualifying Free Zone Person rules, that most setup agents never mention.
FTA Approved Tax Agency (TAN#30001622) | Established 2019 | Abu Dhabi and Dubai
A free zone company is licensed by a specific free zone authority rather than the mainland Department of Economic Development. Free zones are designated areas with their own regulations, designed to make business setup fast and foreign-investor friendly.
Key advantages of free zone business setup:
The main limitation: direct trade with the UAE mainland market is restricted and may trigger tax consequences. For businesses serving international clients, this rarely matters.
Dubai: IFZA, Meydan, DMCC (commodities and trade), DWC (logistics and aviation), DAFZA (near airport), Dubai South, DIFC (financial services).
Abu Dhabi: ADGM (financial services), KEZAD (industrial and logistics), Masdar City (tech and sustainability).
Sharjah and Northern Emirates: SHAMS (media and creative), SAIF Zone, RAKEZ (cost-effective industrial and commercial), Ajman Free Zone, Umm Al Quwain Free Zone.
Each zone suits different activities and budgets. A media startup, a trading company, and a holding structure need different zones. Broadly, zones fall into three groups: budget zones for lean startups, premium zones for prestige and larger teams, and specialist zones for finance, media, logistics and industry. We recommend based on your business, not on commission arrangements.
This is the most misunderstood part of free zone setup. Yes, Qualifying Free Zone Persons can pay 0% corporate tax on qualifying income. But the conditions are strict:
Fail any one of these and you lose Qualifying Free Zone Person status from the start of that tax period and for the four tax periods after it. A single bad year can cost the 0% rate for five years. Many setup agents sell the 0% headline without explaining the conditions. As an FTA-approved tax agency, we assess your eligibility honestly and structure your setup to protect the benefit where you genuinely qualify.
Free Zone Selection Guidance. We analyse your activity, budget, visa needs, and banking plans, then recommend the zones that actually fit, with honest pros and cons.
Complete Formation Handling. Trade name, application, approvals, license issuance, establishment card, and immigration file: managed end to end.
Visa Processing. Investor and employee visas within your zone’s quota, including Emirates ID and medical coordination.
Office and Flexi-Desk Solutions. From flexi-desks for lean startups to offices and warehouses for operational businesses, matched to your license requirements.
Bank Account Opening Support. Free zone companies face real banking scrutiny. We prepare your documentation properly to maximise approval chances.
Corporate Tax and VAT Setup. Qualifying Free Zone Person assessment, corporate tax registration, VAT registration where needed, and bookkeeping setup. Your free zone company is compliant from day one.
Annual Renewal and Compliance. License renewals, audit arrangements where required, and ongoing tax filings, handled year after year.
Step 1: Consultation. We understand your business model and recommend suitable zones with transparent cost comparisons.
Step 2: Application. We prepare and submit your application with all required documents and attestations.
Step 3: License issuance. Your free zone license is issued, typically within days for standard applications.
Step 4: Immigration. Establishment card, entry permits, visas, medical, and Emirates ID.
Step 5: Banking and tax. Corporate bank account support, corporate tax registration, QFZP assessment, VAT registration if applicable, and accounting setup.
Why Choose Free Zone
We are not tied to any single free zone. Our recommendation serves your business, not a sales target.
The 0% corporate tax rules, transfer pricing, and VAT treatment of free zone transactions are complex. Our FTA-approved tax team handles what general setup agents cannot.
We tell you honestly which zones and structures banks prefer, before you commit to a license that complicates account opening.
License cost, visa costs, office costs, our fees: itemised upfront, no surprises.
Renewals, audits, tax filings, and accounting: we stay with your company as it grows.
"I highly recommend Inspire MS Tax Consultancy for their outstanding tax consultancy services in the UAE. Trusted Connections
We collaborate with trusted partners who share our vision for excellence and lasting success.
It varies significantly by zone and package. Cost-effective zones offer lean startup packages, while premium zones with more prestige and facilities cost more. Visas, office upgrades, and additional activities add to the base price. We provide itemised comparisons across suitable zones.
Standard applications often complete within a few days to two weeks. Complex activities or additional approvals take longer. Visa processing and bank account opening follow separately.
Directly, with conditions. The traditional route is a mainland distributor or agent, and mainland-sourced income generally does not qualify for the 0% rate. Since March 2025, Dubai free zone companies can also apply to DET for a temporary mainland operating permit, a branch licence or a dual licence under Executive Council Resolution No. 11 of 2025. We confirm the current position for your activity with the authorities before you rely on it.
It depends. Qualifying Free Zone Persons pay 0% on qualifying income but 9% on non-qualifying income. Non-qualifying free zone companies pay the standard 9% above AED 375,000. Registration with the FTA is required regardless.
Yes, if taxable turnover exceeds AED 375,000. Free zone status does not exempt a company from VAT obligations on its taxable supplies.
Revenue from direct sales to UAE mainland customers generally does not count as qualifying income, so the 9% rate applies to that portion. Since March 2025 a Dubai mainland trading permit is available under Executive Council Resolution No. 11 of 2025, but the tax treatment of mainland sales still needs separate planning. We model this before you start selling.
Often, yes, for two separate reasons. Many free zone authorities require audited financial statements for licence renewal, and the corporate tax rules require audited financial statements as a condition of the 0% Qualifying Free Zone Person rate, whatever your revenue. We arrange audits that satisfy both.
Yes. Free zone licenses include visa quotas for owners and employees, varying by package. We process investor and employment visas as part of setup.
It depends on your activity, budget, target clients, and banking needs. There is no single best zone. In a free consultation, we compare the realistic options for your specific situation.
A free zone company setup includes choosing the right zone, license application, visa processing, and office or flexi-desk arrangements. We manage your free zone company setup end to end.
Yes. Whether you write it as free zone or freezone, our company setup UAE service covers all major free zones across the Emirates.
One conversation can save you from the wrong license, the wrong zone, and the wrong tax assumptions.
